T minus 27 days and counting! It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time for this year’s Henley Royal Regatta! From the look of their website, it’s going to be amazing. Let’s hope the weather holds!
The Henley Royal Regatta has a remarkable history. The first event was held in 1839, and was originally part of a giant fair-style public attraction. The focus then shifted to amateur competitive rowing, and with the exception of the period of time during the two world wars the event has been held annually ever since.
This year’s Regatta will take place from June 28th to July 2nd, and will feature over 200 races with competitor experience ranging from the seasoned Olympians to those participating for the very first time. There’s something for everyone! The event is open to the public, and children under the age of 14 are free in the Regatta enclosure with an adult ticket holder.
Did you know there was a Henley Regatta YouTube Channel? In 2016, all Henley events were streamed live on YouTube. We haven’t been able to determine for certain whether or not they will be doing the same this year, but it’s well worth tuning in to find out!
What to wear at the Henley Royal Regatta
If you’re going to be watching the Regatta from the Henley Enclosure, there’s no dress code! If you’re a member and planning to watch from the Steward’s Enclosure, a dress code does apply. The following has been taken directly from the Regatta website:
Ladies are required to wear dresses or skirts with a hemline below the knee. Ladies will not be admitted wearing divided skirts, culottes or trousers of any kind. Whilst not a requirement, it is customary for ladies to wear hats.
